Dolphins at Petco? No way!

Currently listening to: Dispatch - Bulletholes

Haha, no, really. Petco does not in fact have Dolphins.
I was at the Petco site spec'ing out all the new terrarium things that I'm going to buy (I'm building Trogdor a new setup, it's going to be awesome), when I happened to look over at the menu bar and saw this:

I SERIOUSLY thought this said "Pet Dolphins" for a few seconds. Mind you, I'm wicked tired and only slept a few hours last night, but, I really thought it said it. I was excited momentarily. DOLPHINS! AWESOME! I'd love to have a pet dolphin.

The saddest thing to happen to Subway since Jared

Currently listening to: Catch 22 - Chin Up

So I went to Subway today for my lunch. While I'm waiting in line to get my sub*, I happen to look over and see this piece of paper posted above the cash register down at the other end of the counter. I could read from there that it was something to do with my beloved Sub Club. My stamps. Something was about to happen to my stamps.

As I got there, I could read more carefully and see what was going down. Apparently, as of October 25, they no longer pass out the stamps. NO STAMPS. Yes, you heard me correctly. Atleast they said I can still redeem them until January 2006. Which is good, because I have almost 3 cards filled with stamps ready to go.

This kind of malarchy never went down while MikeD worked there. What is this world coming to?!

Scariest thing that I've seen today

Currently listening to: Hey Mercedes - Oh Penny

This morning I was feeding Trogdor some crickets for his daily feeding. As I tapped the container into his tank to release some of his victims to their final battle ground, I noticed that one lil' guy had only 5 legs. He was missing his right-side rear leg. You know, the big one. The one that actually helps him move around quickly like the little firecracker that he is. Or was.

The English language doesn't contain words to adequately describe how fast a 5 legged cricket disappears in the lair of a hungry Bearded Dragon.

Things that put a smile on my face

Currently listening to: Dropkick Murphys - Fields of Athenry

Am I the only one who gets enjoyment out of flooring it as you drive by your car insurance company? It always makes me giggle as I pass by, knowing that one of these days they'll look out and be like "Hot shit! That kid's a lia-fucking-bility!"

The Grudge

Currently listening to: Coheed and Cambria - The Velourium Camper III: Al the Killer

I watched "The Grudge" for the first time this week. And by week, I mean that it took me nearly a week to watch it.
Kristin and I rented it during the previous weekend and watch it, I believe Saturday night. I fell asleep about 30 min into it because I found it so boring and stupid. So, I took it home and tried to watch it the other night. Same thing, I fell asleep about 30 min into that session, so, I had 1 hour down. I watched some more the other morning while I got ready for work and then finished it last night. It took 4 movie-watching-sessions to kill the bastard.

I highly recommend that you don't watch this POS if you haven't done so yet.

Voted off the Island

So, if I had an island, and I had put 5 "contestants" on it (colleges or universities), I can officially say that I've voted 3 of them off. As of last night.

I have been bouncing around the ideas of what I want in a MBA education and the school that will provide it. I want a school semi-close or really close, a great reputation, good education, low-average cost, and a nice campus. And free Mt. Dew.

Harvard is too much money for me. Let's face it. I'm not Ivy League material.
Assumption is not well known enough. I need more rep behind my degree.
Babson (sorry Kali) is a rich kids' school. I'm not sure I want that rep.

It is pretty down to Bentley and Clark. They're practically the same cost (Bentley is $38 more per course), Clark is wicked close and Bentley is not, but Bentley kicks Clark's ass when it comes to reputation. And the course work is comparable.

So, it sounds like I'll probably go to either one. Might as well take the GMAT's and start writing essays...

New Windshield

Currently listening to: Panic! At the Disco, The Only Difference between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage

On saturday my windshield got cracked by a flying projectile fired at me by another car. That bastard.

So a guy from JN Philips Auto Glass in Leominster came out to the Nypro parking lot at 9am, I pointed to the car, opened her up, and he got to work. He was done in about 40 min and I had a new windshield. Woohoo! And my insurance paid for it all.

Hopefully it won't leak. I've heard some stories about people's leaking once that factory seal is off. However, they claim under their warranty that it's good for the length of my ownership of the car and that if something happens to it they'll replace/fix it. So, I'm not too worried.

Projectile Chinese

So today after lunch, the coolest and grossest thing to happen in a while occurred.

I had just finished my leftover chinese food from last night when I downed a glass of soda to wash it all down. I had the typical chinese food mixture; pork fried rice, crab rangoons, chicken fingers, and General Tsoa's chicken. The beverage: Dr. Pepper.

Post consumption of the meal, I could feel the carbonation building up pressure in my chestal cavity. It needed to get out. ASAP. The only way I saw fit was a good, whole hearted burp.
As the burp commenced, a piece of rice rocketed out of my mouth onto the table.
Needless to say, it was awesome.

The Weekend Update

Since last posting, this is what has happened:

1. It rained. Alot. If you live in the Northeast, you already knew this.
2. I got sick. Allergies and a cold at the same time. On thursday night, I had Allegra, DayQuil, and several Gin & Tonics in me during the period of 7pm-2am while I did hw and a project. If you've never done this before, try it, it's insane how tired and out of it you'll be. But I still managed to get my work done, somehow. Did I mention that I'm a freakin machine?
3. I passed out friday night at 9pm from all my medicine. How lame.
4. Woke up Saturday morning at 3:30am and couldn't fall back asleep. See #3 for the reason.
5. Drove in the downpour to Waltham to go to an Open House at Bentley College. Aside from almost getting into several accidents on the way, I really enjoyed the open house and partial tour. I'm very strongly considering it now over the others.
6. While driving on the Pike, a rock hit my windshield and cracked it. Awesome!
7. I did laundry and came into Nypro for most of yesterday and worked on my school project. Pretty much not-fun.

Nam Suh

Currently listening to: Coheed and Cambria, Keeping the Blade

So yesterday I got an email from Prof. Brown about a guest lecturer that he was having tonight. The guy, Nam Suh, who wrote the book that his class uses, (a course I took 2 years ago) was speaking. He was the ME dept. head at MIT from 1991 to 2001. He had a lot of interesting things to say about Axiomatic Design, and he was pretty funny too. Overall, a good lecture, especially when you consider that I went voluntarily. How weird is that?

And speaking of school, this weekend/next week will be focusing on MBA's alot. I'm going to an all day open house at Bentley and then Wed night I'm going to an open house at Clark. Hopefully I'll start to figure out soon where I want to go for the 3rd (and damn-well-better-be last) degree.

Fall, my love/hate relationship

Currently listening to: Brand New, Seventy times 7

I love fall.

And I hate fall.

I love fall because it's cooler out and the trees go nuts. Like this morning, I woke up to find my apartment at a crisp 49 degrees! Oh how I love not waking up in a pool of my own sweat.

However, it has also rained with a vengeance for the past, oh, let's say week almost. I haven't ridden my bike since last Thursday. How sad.

Saturday

Currently listening to: Orange Island, Oh! How Clintonian of Me

Saturday was fun. I slept in late and was quite a bum, then played Warcraft III for quite some time. I then proceeded to Wagner Audi in Boylston for a test drive. I drove the 2005 A4 for about 45 min around Boylston and then we circled the resivoir. It was a blast. The salesman was wicked helpful even considering that I'm not buying for several months.

I then went and had supper at primos pizza with Zach and his girlfriend. Zach seems to be doing well considering everything he's going through, so, that made me feel better. Then Kali and I met up and we went and saw 'Waiting' at Solomon. It was freakin hilarious. The combination of comedians was perfect. I still think that they should have called it "Van Wilder II, Van gets a job", but, oh well.

Long weekend of nothings

Currently listening to: Jimmy Eat World, Goodbye Sky Harbor

Wow, so I haven't posted in a while. I'll try to update things through several posts in the near future.

Friday night I went to the Dakota show in Townsend and took photos for them as usual. The had a wicked short set (25 min) but it was still good. I especially like how this one came out.

Let me know what you think, feedback is always encouraged and appreciated.

Nubira, you're 'audi' here!

Currently listening to: The Anniversary, All Things Ordinary

That's right, kids. I've set a date. This is more of a motivational date, to get me up off of my ass and get saving some more and actually buy the car that I've been obsessing over for quite some time now. By the end of May 2006 (read: 'bout 6 months-ish) I will own a new/certified-preowned Audi A4. By that time I will have a decent hunk saved up for the down payment and be fully prepared for the associated monthly payments that will follow. I've been saving up for the down payment for over a year now in anticipation of said event, so, I'll be ready.

Whatever you do, though, please don't tell the Nubira about this. She needs to be nice to me until this point in time. She doesn't exactly know that this plan is in process, so, mums the word.

I'm perfect, or will die trying to be

Currently listening to: Sublime, What I got

So people have always called me a perfectionist, but now there's proof, atleast text-based. Search for "Tim Baird" and you should find me listed as a perfectionist Mechanical Engineer. MikeD was kind enough to nominate me for this honor.

Wow

Currently listening to: Dropkick Murphys, Fields of Athenry (Ballad Version)

I just got my new Dropkicks cd in the mail. It's a limited-press run (3,000) of a special version of 'Fields of Athenry' that they recorded and played at the funeral of Sgt. Andrew Farrar's (from Weymouth) funeral. It's pretty awesome. They swapped the names of the people to Andrew and his wife Melissa.

I'd suggest you to go get a copy, but they're probably gone by now.

The past few days

Currently listening to: Smashing Pumpkins, Cherub Rock

Friday night: Went to Solomon and saw 'Serenity' with Kristin. She slept through the majority of it as usual, but it was wicked good. I recommend anyone to go see it, even if you know nothing about Firefly series.

Saturday: Woke up at the crack ass 'o dawn and cut firewood with my dad & uncles. Then went and helped my Gram with some antique malarchy. I then got really, really, ridiculously tired and felt sick at around 2ish. Skipped bike ride and went out to worcester. Then went down to Mohegan Sun with Kristin and her friend Janine till the early morning. I actually came out on top by $25 from playing the slot machines.

Sunday: Was a bum most of the morning, got bagels, played warcraft, did laundry, and then poppped my first tire on my road bike while riding. It sucked, but, I was okay despite having cars whizzing by me fast (I was also going about 35 mph at the time).
