Financial Dilemma of the Year Award

Currently Listening to: Coheed & Cambria - The Suffering

The FDY goes to the Audi A4, and it's purchase by yours truly.

If you know me, you know that I've had my eye on an A4 since before I even owned the Nubira. The Nubira, as loyal of a car as she has been, was purchased with the intent of only a few years use. At most, I planned on buying a new one as soon as I finished my ME masters degree. However, my current plan (um, well, the current plan before about 10am this morning) was to buy an A4 sometime this spring/summer after I get my tax refund check.

But! If you were to look at the Wagner Audi website, you'll notice that in the pre-owned section, they have a 2003 A4 1.8T, and it's dark blue. My color of choice is, in order of awesomeness, black, blue, or silver. It's about $1k more than I'd like, but that could be talked down. I also have enough saved for downpayment to make the montly finance payments just a hair below the max that I would allow myself to dish out for 5 years straight.

Arg. What to do ... what to do ...

have you been good this year?

wait. is it automatic?

there's a black 02 in there with less miles than the 03 and its manual. and $2k less than the 03 as well.

i can't look at it much closer... i may have broken their website.

Anyways, is the 03 really that much cooler than the 02 and if so, then you should wait till spring.

Eh, we'll see. I'm not really a fan of manual shifting, and as long as the car I get has tiptronic or some other form of relatively fast sport-automatic shifting, I'm going to lean towards an automatic.

Sorry!

Tim.

I don't know if we can be friends anymore.

Okay.
Maybe that's a little harsh.

But you may need to buy a bigger gun.
If you know what I mean.

I'd agree, if the A4 had good sport-style shifting... but it dosn't, it has an automatic with a fluid clutch. If it were DSG, that'd be one thing, but this is a true automatic! so much power loss! so much more crap!

why do you dislike manual? you don't even know how to drive it!

That's why I dislike it! It scares me!

Actually, no. But I've had very little experience trying manual, and every time I do, I keep stalling it to the dismay of the car's owner. If you teach me Ben, and I walk away knowledgeable, I can be swayed.

And whoever posted anonymously: I'm not sure if you're aware of how much an A4 costs in relation to how much money I make/have, but that's how long I'll need to pay it off and not go broke in the mean time. If you want to give me an interest free loan, then I'll accept the offer.

sounds like maybe if you can't afford the A4 you just might have to continue driving your Nubria!

Oh Mr. Anonymous, so many errors!

For starters, my car is a "nubira", not a "nubria". Please, let's do a little personal spell checking prior to submitting comments on my site.

Secondly, no body said that the A4 was not affordable, I merely said that I didn't want to do it in less than 5 years. Given my desired percentage of downpayment and my desired montly payment amount, a 5 year loan is ideal. And I can always do a refi later.
